Export photos: JPEG, HEIC, TIFF and PNG
To export a photo from Raw Smith, open it and choose Export. You can save it as JPEG, HEIC, 16-bit TIFF or PNG, to Photos or to Files, and every export is rendered fresh from the RAW with your edits.
Exporting never changes the original. Export as often as you like, in as many formats as you need.
How to export a photo on iPhone and iPad
Tap Export in the editor's toolbar. The export sheet shows a preview you can pinch to zoom, then these rows:
| Frame | Add a frame around the photo, and choose its style. |
|---|---|
| Caption | Add a Caption to print in the frame and write into the file's description. |
| Location | Keep or leave out the photo's GPS location. |
| Format | JPEG, HEIC, TIFF or PNG. |
| HDR | Shown for formats that can carry a gain map. |
| Size | Full Resolution or Web / Social (2048px). |
A summary line reads back your choice, for example "JPEG · Full Size · Gallery · Location". The main button is Save to Photos; once saved it offers Open Photos. The arrow beside it has Save to Files…, Copy and Share…. Raw Smith remembers these settings for next time.
How to export a photo on a Mac
In the editor's toolbar, Export is a split button. Click it to export at full resolution with the current settings, or open its menu to choose:
- Format: HEIC, JPEG or TIFF (16-bit).
- Save To: Files… or Photos.
- Add Frame, and Frame and Caption… to set the frame up.
The file is named after the photo with "-edited" on the end. For a size, quality, color space or watermark, use batch export, even for one photo.
How to export many photos at once
Select photos in the grid and choose Export in the selection bar. On a Mac you can also right-click and choose Batch Export Selected…. The sheet is titled "Export n Photos". For a walkthrough, see the batch export tutorial.

Batch export on iPhone and iPad
The batch sheet has the same rows as the single-photo sheet. Save to Photos, use Save to Files… to pick a folder (it starts in Files › Raw Smith › Exports), or Share….
Which format should you choose?
| JPEG | Works everywhere. The safe choice for sharing, the web and printing services. |
|---|---|
| HEIC | Smaller files than JPEG at the same quality, with 10-bit color. Ideal within Apple devices. |
| TIFF (16-bit) | The most tonal detail, for further editing or print. Large files. |
| PNG (16-bit) | Lossless, for tools that want PNG. |
Frames and captions
A frame puts the photo on a border, with an optional caption and shooting details. Styles: Border, Gallery, Instant, Data Strip, Settings Card and Film Strip. You can change the frame's aspect (Original, Square, Portrait 4:5, 3:4 or 2:3, Story 9:16 or Wide 16:9), its color (White, Paper, Black or Match Photo) and the typeface. To frame every export, turn on Add a frame to exports in Settings › Export.
Adding your name and copyright
In Settings › Export, fill in Creator and Copyright under Your Details. They're written into every photo you export.

To take ratings, labels, keywords and captions to another app, turn on Write XMP Sidecars in batch export, or select photos and choose Write XMP Sidecars from the selection bar's More menu. Develop settings stay in Raw Smith.
If Raw Smith can't save to Photos
If you see "Raw Smith isn't allowed to add photos to your library", tap Open Settings and allow Raw Smith to add photos to your library, then export again.
